In developed regions, over a fifth of the population is currently aged 60 years or over and by 2050 they will account for a fifth of the population worldwide. By 2025, the number of people in the United States sixty-five and older will nearly double.
This "elder boom" will transform society, affecting the lives of all and challenging long-held beliefs about work, family, health and purpose.
Re-Imagining Age Project uses history and culture to promote public discussion on age and aging. In collaboration with museums, libraries and other educational partners, the Project develops public programs that help participants explore concepts and experiences of aging in different historical settings and cultural traditions.
